The first program of 2012 has been dedicated to three Bangla Radio Canberra producers: Dr. Sadequr Rahman, Dr. Bina D'Costa and Ms. Sakiba Rahman, who recently left Canberra to take up their new roles in Kuala Lumpur and Geneva. Bangla Radio is very much in debt for their contribution in the management and production of radio programs on a wide range of topics over the last ten years. In recollection this week's program played parts of the recording from recent annual meeting presided by Dr. Sadequr Rahman, the past Coordinator, held in his residence. The two beautiful songs played in the program: 'aaj abar money porey' and 'bhuley jao prothom aalap' were sung by popular Kolkata band 'chandrabindu'. This week's program presented an interview with Dr. Vernon Bailey discussing meditation and healing garden. Dr Bailey a distinguished Canberra nutritionist, who worked over fifty years in Asia mainly Indonesia, spoke about spiritual healing and multicultural reconciliation and the establishment of the Environment Meditation and Healing Garden in Canberra by the Canberra Interfaith Forum represented by the people from different faiths in Canberra. The beautiful songs played in the program: 'muchhey jaoa dinguli', 'pother klanti bhuley', 'dinguli mor shonar khanchae' and 'tui phele eshechhish karey' were sung by Indian singers Hemanta Mukhapadhay and Indrani Sen. This week's program was produced and presented by Ajoy Kar.

This week's program featured architectural heritage of Lalbagh Fort in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Built around 1678, it is a unique example of Moghul Architecture in Bengal. Recently Lalbagh Fort has been proposed for inclusion in the UNESCO world heritage items register. This week's program also featured a conversation with Bangladeshi architect and historian Mizanur Rashid in Malaysia. Architect Rashid elaborated different historical aspects of the fort and told many unknown facts. The songs played in this week's program 'nurjahan' and 'ganga shindhu normoda' were sung by Bangladeshi singer Feroza Begum and Indian singer Angshuman Roy. This week’s program featured: (1) the worship of Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of knowledge and wisdom, in the world where religion plays an important role on human lives, and (2) an informative discussion on heart disease based on Heart Specialist Dr. Devi Shety’s Interview with WIPRO employees in Bangalore, India. The second part of the program was dedicated to the students of 44th batch of the Bangladesh Agricultural Institute. The songs played in this week’s program ‘saraswati namasthubyam’, ‘saraswati ma’, 'choley gechhe bondhu amar’ and ‘bari gari aha mori’ were sung by Indian singers Anup Jalota, Manna Dey and Bangladeshi singer Nakul Kumar Biswas respectively. This week’s program was produced and presented by Ajoy Kar.

This week’s program commemorated the - Australia Day - by presenting a selection of Australian country songs and jokes. Australia Day is celebrated annually across Australia on 26 January to commemorate the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788 and the proclamation at that time of British sovereignty in the eastern coast of the Australian continent. The beautiful country songs: ‘We are Australian’, ‘Billy Tea’ and ‘My Island Home’ played in the program were sung by renowned Australian singers. The music compositions used in the program were taken from album Souvenir of Australia published by the Lifestyle Music Group. This week’s program was produced and presented by Ehsan Ullah.

This week's program commemorating the month of Language Martyrs of Bangladesh, presented a critical analysis of the current state of Bangla language and the evolution it has gone through since the historic language movement in 1952, with a particular emphasis on the challenge it is facing today from the language of the visual media, based on a write up by an eminent litterateur Syed Manzurul Islam. The beautiful songs played in the program were sung by singers Abdul Latif from Bangladesh and Pratul Mukhopaddhay from India. This week’s program was produced and presented by Obaidul Haque.

This week's program presented a discussion on the Liberation War of Bangladesh and Australian Mr. W.A.S. Ouderland, the only foreigner who was awarded the Gallantry Award 'Bir Protik' for his contribution towards Bangladesh’s independence in 1971. The beautiful songs played in this week’s program: ‘mora ekti ful ke bachabo bole’, ‘salam salam hazar salam’, ‘ek shagor rokter binimoye’, ‘tireer ei dheuer shagore’ were sung by Bangladeshi singers Apel Mahmud, Rasedul Hasan Kayes and a group of singers of Sadhin Bangla Betar Kendra. This week’s program was produced and presented by Ajoy Kar.

This week's program paid tribute to the martyrs of the Language Movement of 1952 through a collection of songs - 'chetonar gaan, preronar gaan' - that motivated the Bangalee’s to fight for their rights and win freedom. The story covered by the program starts from the resistance against British raj, language movement in 1952, liberation war in 1971 and the present Bangladesh. The beautiful songs played in the program will be in the Bangladeshi's heart forever. The artists of the songs are Abdul Latif, Rathindranath Ray, Apel Mahmud, Sabina Yasmin, Abdul Jabbar and Mahmuduzzaman Babu, and the poem was recited by Quazi Arif. This week's program was produced and presented by Sheikh Lana.

This week's program paid tribute to Humayun Faridi, a renowned actor of Bangladesh who passed away on 13 February 2012 at the age of 60. An active  member of the Bangladesh's theatre movement, Humayun Faridi was well known for his outstanding performances on stage, television and cinema for over four decades. This week's program played some of Humanyun Faridi's beautiful recitations, parts of his performances and his memories recollected by one of his co-actress, Sydney resident, Ms. Rehana Sultana. This week's program was produced and presented by Raquibul Sheikh.

This week's program commemorated the first death anniversary of Dr. Apala Farhat Naved. Dr. Apala Naved was a professor of Biochemistry at Dhaka University, a teacher at Chhayanaut and a driving force behind Kalyan Porampora, which seeks to further the ideals and vision of her father Waheedul Haque of a secular and progressive Bangladesh. Dr. Apala Naved also contributed regularly to Bangla Radio Canberra. In this program, her life and remarkable personality is recollected by her friends Hasneen Muktadir, Sara Gulshan, Sima Gulshan and Prof. Mustafizur Rahman. The program concludes with a letter by her daughter, Auni. The songs played in this week's program were sung by Dr. Apala Naved. This week's program was produced and presented by Sadequr Rahman  from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This week’s program presented a beautiful composition of poems and songs on - 'boshonto utshab' - the traditional festival to welcome spring in Bangladesh. It also interviewed Bangladeshi expatriate in Sydney Ms, Nibedita Das, and Canberra residents Mr. Chris Bradley and Mr. Yilmaz Atag to get a glimpse of spring celebrations in Sydney and Canberra. The poems recited in the program were written by Dr. Abed Chaudhury. The songs played in the program: 'boshonto chhueyechhe', 'o-he shundoro momo', 'shukno patar nupur paaye', 'nachey shyama', 'dhirey dhirey boho' and 'eki labonne purno pran' were sung by Kumar Bishwajit, Shuvomita Banerjii, Sami, Manisha Murali Nair and Paromita Dey. This week’s program was produced and presented by Paromita Dey.

This week’s program remembered and paid homage to the army officers killed by the disgruntled Bangladesh border guards at their Pilkhana headquarters in Dhaka three years ago. It presented an intimate interview of Shemonti, only child of fallen Major Khalid Hossain, and the observance of the third anniversary of the massacre in Dhaka last month. The songs played in the program: 'shadhinota ki boishakhi mela', 'koto-tuku osru gora-le', and 'mukti-jodhara kothae achho lukiye' were sung by Bangladeshi singer Haider Hossain. This week’s program was produced and presented by Ehsan Ullah.

This week's program commemorated the 41st Independence Day of Bangladesh. It presented a composition of patriotic songs, poem recitations and reading of an article by Provat Ghose, a Bangladeshi expatriate living in Adelaide, Australia. The poem used in the program was written by Romen Raihan and recited by Shimul Mostafa. The patriotic songs played in the program: 'sob kota janala', 'jonmo amar dhonno holo', 'bangladesh', 'karar oi louho kopat', 'oi ujjolo din', 'shadhinotar gaan', 'bongo amar jononi amar' were collected from the Internet. This week's program has been dedicated to the martyrs of the Bangladesh's Independence War. This week's program was produced and presented by Newton Muhury.

This week's program focused on - 'Pohela Boishakh' - the first day of Bengali New year celebrated in mid-April which connects all ethnic Bengalis irrespective of religious and regional differences. It described the history and cultural tradition of Bangla New Year celebration in Bangladesh. The songs played in the programme: ‘esho he boishakh’, ‘dhitang dhitang bole’, ‘melay jaire’, 'lal paharer deshe ja' and 'shobar ghorey aaj boishakh eshechhe' were sung by Hemanta Mukherjee, Chinmoy Chatterjee, Maqsood of Feedback, Shagoto and Milon Mahmud respectively. This week’s programme was produced and presented by Shamsuddin Shafi Biplob.

This week’s program, based on an article by the eminent Bangladeshi economist Mozaffer Ahmad, presented a critique of the current political culture in Bangladesh that, among other things, is characterised by the lack of accountability to the people and of democratic practices within the political parties. It highlighted how the current political culture impeded the unity of the nation and underscored the need of strong statesmanship for freedom from the current depressing state. The beautiful songs played in the program were sung by Bangladeshi singer Haider Hussain. This week’s program was produced and presented by Obaidul Haque.

This week's program covered the – 'Boishakhi Mela' – jointly organised by the Bangladeshi Seniors Club, Canberra and Bangladesh High Commission in the High Commission premises in Canberra on 14 April 2012 to celebrate the Bangla New Year. The program captured various aspects of the ‘Mela’ including the speech of ACT multicultural Minister Joy Birch, and interview with program organisers and visitors. The songs played in the program were sung by local singers performed in the Mela. This week’s programme was produced and presented by Ajoy Kar.

This week’s program presented first part of a two part onunatika - ‘Ka-theke-ka’ - which is to be broadcast in consecutive weeks. The onunatika is concerned with an apparently affluent young couple who have recently moved to Kuala Lumpur from Canberra and their interactions with some of the local ‘deshi’s. The voices on this week’s onunatika were provided by Javed Mahmood Shiplu, Fahima Khan and Mohammed Haider Ali. The songs in this week’s program were sung by Aditi Mohsin and Chandana Majumder. This week’s program was produced and presented by Sadequr Rahman from Kuala Lumpur.

This week's program presented the second and concluding part of the onunatika - 'Ka-theke-ka'. In this week's program the husband starts a transport business from Kuala Lumpur to Australia following the advice of a more established businessman. The impact and consequences of this activity are followed. This week's program featured, in order, the voices of Shamsul Haque, Javed Mahmood Shiplu, Muhammed Haider Ali and Fahima Khan . The songs in this week's program were sung by Chandana Majumder and Shera Shwagoto. This week's program was produced and presented by Sadequr Rahman from Kuala Lumpur.

This week’s program paid tribute to Bangladesh's national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on his birth anniversary to be observed on 25th May. It presented a collection of his songs from the infinite treasure of multidimensional theme songs he created that not only enriched Bangla music with a new stream but also reflected the variety of experiences, depths and emotions of his dynamic life. The Nazrul songs played in the program were sung by distinguished singers from India and Bangladesh. This week's program was produced and presented by Sheikh Lana.

This week's program introduced the Migrant and Refugee Settlement Services (MARSS) of the ACT Inc. MARSS provides programs for migrants of all ages to assist with language, welfare, employment, access and equity for people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. This week's program featured an interview with Mr. Clinton McCulloch, one of the Project Officers of MARSS. The songs played in this week’s program were sung by Indian singers Bhupen Hazarika, Bappi Lahiri, Swapan Basu and Bangladeshi chorus-singers.
